The film centers on 1863, one of the most turbulent eras in Japan’s history as seen through the eyes of 16-year-old ITOSATO. Training to become TAYOU, supreme entertainer in Kyoto, home of the Emperor’s palace, she witnesses the assassination of her mentor. Intrigue and clashes result between competing Samurai factions. ITOSATO, in love with a farmer-turned Samurai, chooses to become his ally. Their plans are often thwarted by the evil Serizawa, her boyfriend’s superior. In the end, saving the Emperor’s kingdom becomes paramount.
